H.E. Humaid Al Qatami Inaugurates DUPHAT 2018 in Dubai today

With the Participation of 110 Speakers from 75 Countries & 27,500 Expected Visitors and Participants

Dubai – United Arab Emirates, 27 February 2018: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Ruler of Dubai, Minister of Finance and President of Dubai Health Authority, His Excellency Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qatami, Chairman of the Board & Director General of the Dubai Health Authority, officially inaugurated today, the 23rd edition of Dubai International Pharmaceuticals & Technologies Conference and Exhibition – DUPHAT, held at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre.

Following the opening ceremony, H.E. Humaid Al Qatami, accompanied by a number of VIP’s, local and international representatives, heads of delegations and specialists in pharmaceuticals industry, took a tour in the exhibition area where they were introduced to the latest pharmaceutical products and technologies, displayed by key industry leaders in the industry from the region and around the world.

On the sidelines of the opening ceremony, Dr. Ali Al Sayed, DUPHAT Conference Chairman, said: “The profession of pharmacy in the region is going through rapid transformation with greater automation, robotics, specialization and more importantly upgradation of quality services, increasingly becoming the norm rather than the exception. In order to stay relevant and remain an integral part of the global healthcare fraternity, pharmacy has to keep pace with the rest of the world and adapt itself to changes taking place in the industry. DUPHAT is committed to achieving this goal by enhancing and upgrading competency and professionalism, facilitating staff development, introduction of specialized services and creating opportunities for collaboration.”

He added, “With the constant support of Dubai Health Authority, DUPHAT has emerged as a premier pharmaceutical conference in the region, attracting leading pharmacy professionals from many countries including the USA, UK, Australia, Europe, Canada and the Middle East. In addition, a wide variety of topics in pharmacy such as pharmaceutical science, quality and safety of medicines, medication management, drug recalls and shortages, governance and best practices will be covered during the 3-day event.”

On his part, Dr. Abdul Salam Al Madani, Executive Chairman of DUPHAT Conference and Exhibition said: “DUPHAT is witnessing a remarkable progress year after year in terms of the scientific program and the parallel exhibition. This year, 650 companies from 75 countries from the region and the world will take part in the event that will occupy a total area of 18,000 square meters, while the conference and the exhibition is expected to attract 27,500 visitors and participants this year.

He added, “At the annual DUPHAT conference and exhibition, we are committed in contributing to the development of the pharmaceutical industry and to provide the latest innovations and advanced technology to industry professionals.”

DUPHAT conference agenda this year features 172 scientific sessions and 26 workshops that cover several pharmaceutical topics, in addition to 520 poster presentations and the participation of 432 representatives from pharmaceutical associations and organizations. The conference witnesses the participation of 110 speakers and a notable participation from GCC delegates in scientific sessions that will be presented by pharmaceutical societies and associations from Saudi, Kuwait, Oman, and Bahrain.

On the first day, DUPHAT 2018 highlighted many key trending topics related to the pharmaceutical sector, including ‘Caring for Patients and Front-line Pharmacy Staff, ‘’Highlighting Different Practice Models to Achieve Excellence in Pharmacy Practice’, ‘Defining the Clinical Value of Pharmacist after 28 years of the Introduction of Pharmaceutical Care’ and ‘Options for Paying for Pharmacist’s Services’ among others.

Part of its scientific activities, DUPHAT will host this year the 1st Student Pharmacist Patient Counselling Competition, to encourage student pharmacists in their efforts to become better patient counsellors. This competition is focused on the changing dynamics of pharmacy practice while also enhancing the role of pharmacy students as healthcare providers. Top 10 scoring participants will be awarded during a ‘closing session’ on the third and final day of the event.
